i like it man, it could even go under the topic of how to ratify a beetle  good to see some one being different

68AutoBug - 16-2-2004 at 04:57 PM

Sam
You certainly did wreck Your Beetle...
and why wasn't the "W" deck lid on Your oval?? painted yellow I mean.....
Well, the "der nueburg Volks Klub" won't have many members with cars like that showing up on "SHOW & Shine "days....
I think You got it ALL wrong Sam.....
You should have called Your club the
"Rat look car club" and then the other 3 beetles could have stayed at Home......

68AutoBug - 16-2-2004 at 05:02 PM

I forgot to say that I don't like ratty look anything......
Do a car up and You get praise, do a car down & You go down with it....
Everyone knows It takes time & money to keep a car nice & shiny & detailed...
It takes nothing to look like a RAT....
If You want to be a RAT... go right ahead..
I won't be looking at Your car.....

Alex Holzl - 16-2-2004 at 05:05 PM

i thought your were showing the pics backwards on how u did up you dak dak... BUT NO i was wrong!!! lol mind you it doesnt look that bad...

pyr0 - 16-2-2004 at 05:21 PM

i think dubs are starting to get like art.....all to there own opinion....aka.....beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

and i mean who could blame someone wanting to be an individual rather than a soldier of the conformists army.

with all this said id like to add i love vw's no matter how they come

koolkarmakombi - 16-2-2004 at 05:25 PM

take it like that then quickly swap it all back for next week

kkk

oval TOFU - 16-2-2004 at 05:26 PM

you didn't really rattify your oval did you?!

68AutoBug - 16-2-2004 at 05:44 PM

If someone said You can buy that rat look beetle for $100, with ratty seats different coloured doors etc... or a nice beetle
- All ONE colour, nice re upholstered interior, for $500 .. which one would You buy if You had $500 ????
I would like to be sitting in the nice seats, in a one coloured car... Perfect...

well said, i fully agree!
my idea of rat look is a car that has been dragged out of a shed/barn/field/swamp.... and simply made driveable, not cleaned or painted or messed with at all apart from road worthiness requirements......and maybe some wheels and a motor

the idea of changing parts around to 'create' a rat lok car doesn't quite make sense to me.

kai

p.s. my opinion is not intended to cause offence to anyone, it's just my opinion.

twoguns - 16-2-2004 at 07:18 PM

the idea is to have 'your' expression of ride. not the general concensus. certainly makes for a more entertaining car show when you have dubs with all sorts of finishes and qualities. not the 'gfk' style where all cars are done to the same format. not there is anything wrong with that concept either. it is also an accepted part of our community. rats, cal look, stock, german, and of course the piece of shit daily driver. they are all equal in my book.

what to you see the next evolution of bus80y. i am sure many will not agree, but it is mine.

Helbus - 16-2-2004 at 08:27 PM

Bring your rats over to the shiny side.

Come to the Paint & Body forum and respray your pan, paint that body with a super gloss, rechrome and retrim everything.

Trust us, trust us, trust us.

wacked1 - 17-2-2004 at 09:40 AM

If you don't like the rat look, don't use the rat forum!

who is that directed at? or was it just a general statement???

kaiwacked1 - 17-2-2004 at 02:33 PM

Dude, it wasn't directed at anyone inparticular. Just making an observation, this guy is showing his pride and joy and people are ratting on him pardon the pun rember the old saying if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.

Helbus - 17-2-2004 at 04:43 PM

The rat look is super individual. I think it is the best way to express your individuality without mega mega bucks.

I appreciate the work that goes in to making the car look as balanced or possibly unbalanced look as possible.

I suppose if you see a beetle painted in the newish Ford Blueprint colour, you can go and get yours done the same.

A rat can't be copied.

Keep up the good work.

I must be a bit like my cat. I like shiny things too.

Craig Torrens - 17-2-2004 at 07:59 PM

love your work Sam  I've only just read your post and have been LOL for the last 10 minutes, the number plate is very much appropriate now!!!

speedster356 - 17-2-2004 at 08:06 PM

"formula cars" as I call them are OK....... but do your own thing It's ur car after all.
A new style maybe "de-evolution look"

Peter Leonard - 17-2-2004 at 10:01 PM

*punts helbus back to the shiny side*

people.... this is a RAT forum.
go for it VWFOOL
Don't be tempted by the minions of gloss and retrimming

"the farce is strong in this one.."

I like the rusted with chrome look, body straight, dumped, diff panels, paint worn thin, and perfect chrome that says "i made it this way on purpose". the clincher is an insanely hot motor, and mebbe one accessory, like a bazooka. or ICBM on the front seat.

might have to go lob a bucket of paint stripper over at the paint and body peeps.... brb

(have you ever met those old people who sit and watch the dreadful programming and immoral pornographic tv shows they hate, hour after hour after hour; seems silly, huh?)

dumone - 17-2-2004 at 10:42 PM

..........fool, you"re cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

vw0064 - 18-2-2004 at 12:37 AM

Sam Sam Sam, (shaking my head)
what have you done. your car was nearly at the rat stage as it was. you just had to stop washing it .
let the sun and the crazy cracks do the work for you.

So when are you going to get it all painted up again

56ovaltine - 18-2-2004 at 09:03 AM

Sam the man that stood up for the Rat Fanciers and showed all the shiny paint lovers ,True metal character different parts of different cars come together and tell there own individual story on one car/bus .
And in a full photographical story board with pics and all.
hip hip hooooray for sam and ill b following soon with mine , My guards are coming of and being replaced with faded and rusty ones for this.

Peter Leonard - 18-2-2004 at 05:15 PM

woohooooo
go ratters

Helbus - 18-2-2004 at 05:28 PM

I'm not scared of ya's

Dare ya to come over to the paint & panel

<running & ducking>

newcastle68daka - 18-2-2004 at 09:00 PM

yeah you might take the piss out of the rat look, but when sam turned up at the euro day and everyone was standing around the ferrari all chubbed, all the attention turned straight to the rat, oh yes!, at that exact moment I knew who would take out the peoples choice award!. it was like mosses, everyone just parted which led him down to the german display! but when he got out and put the "Admire but dont touch" sign on his window, you know this rat was here to impress! lol ! Just needed the spider webs on the wheel arch sam, but you know that you got my vote!!

Peter Leonard - 18-2-2004 at 11:11 PM

we rats are lean, mean, and dirty. not like the soft, overfed housebroken ones over there in the shiny area

in fact, I have already been on a raid, bandit style, and have returned unscathed with my loyal posse bwahahhahha!!!

all jokes aside, helbus is doing a very shiny job over there in the paint and body section, and may even inspire me to replace some bits. with rusty ones

Helbus - 18-2-2004 at 11:23 PM

Well I suppose if you see anyone who is going to replace panels with super straight clean ones, make sure you grab the scraped and mismatched coloured ones. Even the ones that have had small repairs and primer patches.

I would consider it a form of recycling?

Yeah?

Peter Leonard - 19-2-2004 at 02:09 AM

Actually that's a good idea. give all your rusted panels up. people need them.

kombi_kid - 19-2-2004 at 03:21 PM

well people it seems we have some "pretty boys" here all for shiny beautifully coloured cars!!! i myself love sams car it looks sweet gives it a period look and who knows it might turn people to this dark side called "rats"
keep the ratting going!
cheers
rhys

twoguns - 19-2-2004 at 03:31 PM

might be the good time to get over to wacked1's house and colloect a few of what he has for sale...

soubds like the value of the shitty panels is about to rise.

frenzix - 19-2-2004 at 10:10 PM

wacked1 - 21-2-2004 at 10:21 AM

XXX-1.8T - 23-2-2004 at 10:14 AM

Good on u Sam spewing i missed the show and ur rat

BenettonVW - 23-2-2004 at 11:02 AM

Jeebers Lee, do people say to you that you wrecked your car cause you painted your engine red and yellow? It's YOUR car, so you do with it as YOU please..
So what is so different with Sam.. I think you need to broaden your mind a little.

Sam, nice job brother.. Probably not something I would have done, but that doesn't mean that it both doesn't look mad or is a bad thing..
These cars will attract attention people, and if you don't think so, you wait and see..

With it or against it, it is simply an expression of ones car, so who are we to criticise? Each to their own.. How boring would it be otherwise?

Preach it brother... (I mean God)
Here Here. I'll drink to that. I'll drink to anything.

frenzix - 26-2-2004 at 12:18 AM

~frenzix

blue74l - 26-2-2004 at 12:35 PM

Sam

I take it with the primer that has been added to guards and body that this is its new long time look??

vw0064 - 26-2-2004 at 02:44 PM

VWFOOL - 1-3-2004 at 01:01 PM

firstly,
as most of u can see, this post started as a little bit of fun, nothing to be taken too seriously. im glad some of u had a laugh.
whilst i certainly dont feel the need to justify myself, it is MY car (and remember, its ONLY a car), and i can do as i please.
likewise, this is an open forum, and u can say wat u please.

but wat i will say is this.
everyone on this forum whose opinion i respect and wanted to hear from has responded in a friendly and supportive manner, and i couldnt be happier with the response.
as for the hater(s), take a good look at ur own backyard b4 u go dissing mine, to not like somethng is fine, but some comments r below the belt. im starting to think maybe in future i should be more vocal about my opinion on other people's projects i dont like or respect.

this is my first post that i hav seen cop some ridicule, this place has been friendly to me so far. i just wonder wat would hav been said if i told u about the 1916 and narrowed front beam...
have fun guys

VWFOOL

sikdub - 1-3-2004 at 03:00 PM

Love the look Sam, definite appeal.
Steven

Helbus - 1-3-2004 at 05:06 PM

Our bus and our beetle both sorta started out as rat look. They were both country cars and had that 'sunburnt to primer' look.

I just can't stop playing with shiny things.

Peter Leonard - 1-3-2004 at 05:39 PM

" just wonder wat would hav been said if i told u about the 1916 and narrowed front beam... "

LOL

helbus. put the shiny things down. and go wash your hands.

Boozer - 1-3-2004 at 06:27 PM

Dude when I saw this I couldn't beleive it. I fell of my chair laughing!

don't take it the wrong way, I was laughing because it was such a brilliant idea carried out so well and the responses of some people were classic. Good on Ya for not going with the crowd and trying to stand out and be different. I love the rat look as it is totally unique and cannot be replicated, unlike all the shiny, stock standard cars that stand in a row at shows and all look the same and bore me zzzzzzzz...but if that's your thing go for it!

and as you said you shouldn't have to justify your actions to other people but if you be different you usually have to do so. I've had to justify my baja to people (VW people mostly but not always) who've started to get real snotty about how I wrecked a nice early 60's bug to make a horrible green THING...

...which by the way was the way it was when I got it and it has obviously had a minor ding in the front before the baja conversion. Once again Congrats on being a individual and being prepared to stand out! You RULE!

Helbus - 1-3-2004 at 09:07 PM

"helbus. put the shiny things down. and go wash your hands."

Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh,

I cant stop now.

Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh.

Peter Leonard - 1-3-2004 at 10:21 PM

LOL

ya sicko.

Helbus - 1-3-2004 at 10:26 PM

As sick as they get.

OvalGlen - 18-3-2004 at 09:35 PM

Sam Sam Sam, I am so disappointed-

I did not get to see the Pics,
Where are they?
You are Way Cool,
So have you driven around in it?
Does it catch Attention?
